This is not Franklin Falls, nor are any of the pictures I took on my hike up the Franklin Falls trail on Saturday. You see, I did not do my research very well and did not actually know what I was looking for and therefore never made it to Franklin Falls. It's a 1 mile hike on the Franklin Falls trail to Franklin Falls... I think I walked 0.9 miles, saw a small waterfall, thought "what a lame little waterfall" and turned around. Apparently, I needed to go the extra 50 yards to see the impressive, 70 foot waterfall in the picture on the Washington Trails page.
So, do your research when you go for a hike or go anywhere to see something so you are sure you are looking at the right thing when you get there. A couple of years ago, my sons and I went for a drive up Mt. Baker Hwy to what we assumed was going to be Mt. Baker. When we arrived at the end of the highway and saw a very beautiful mountain scene we were pretty impressed and I took what I think is a pretty nice picture. Unfortunately, it wasn't Mt Baker. It was Mt Shuksan and while it is a very beautiful mountain, it wasn't the mountain we thought it was.
I'm going to go back to the Franklin Falls trail in the next few weeks and make the entire 1 mile trek to see what appears to be a pretty nice waterfall. I'll let you know how that goes.
